Swimming

Today was the first day of swimming lessons for Malcolm, and the first time he was doing the class without mom or dad.  He did great, except for getting his face and ears wet.  Hopefully he will get a little braver about that during the next two weeks.  It was cute to watch him try to mimic the instructors, and he looked like he was having a good time.

He was a little unsure about the idea of swimming lessons this morning, but we were able to get there a little early and that helped calm his nerves.  We had a few minutes to get situated, take a walk around the outside of the pool, and talk a little bit about what to expect.  By the time class started, he was ready to go, and afterward made a lady in the locker room giggle as he proclaimed his love of the pool.

I've got my towel and I'm ready to swim!

Headed into the water with his teachers and the rest of his class. The pool is a zero depth pool, so they can just walk in to a comfortable depth. Having 2 teachers and only 3 kids is also really nice.

Making splashes.

She was trying to get him to float on his back, but he didn't really like that idea. Gymnastics and swimming lessons collided when she said something to him about "laying back" and he put his hands back and lifted his legs like he was going to do a backward roll. She caught him, but he would only float on his back with his legs in the air and his hands by his ears no matter how many times the teacher tried to push his legs back down.
