I meant to write about this back when it happened a couple of weeks ago, but put it off, then forgot about it completely until I was looking over our photos from March.  I don't know where my mind is most days.


Dorothy had her first Oreo cookie and I took pictures to document the occasion. Poor thing was teething really badly, but still wanted to finish her cookie. Toward the end, she would take a bite, then cry for a second because it hurt to chew. It was really pathetic to watch but she was a trooper.


I might not know what this thing is, but I'm very happy to have it.

Liz Taylor

When we got into the car after being at the grocery store, I caught the tail end of a story on Liz Taylor.  It sounded like an obituary and I said out-loud, "Hmmm..."  Malcolm asked why I said that and I answered that they were talking about a woman and I wondered if she had died.  As we were getting out of the car at home he announced:

I don't think that girl they were talking about died.  Yeah.  She's still around.  She's just in her car, driving home.


Whenever I think of Liz Taylor, I'm going to picture her driving home in her car.

The Planet Store

We drove by an industrial complex that has a large 3D globe out front.  As we drove by, Malcolm pipes up front he back seat:

Oh!  It is a planet store.
Yeah!  That is where people go so that they can know what planet we are on.


I really need to write things down right when he says them because he said something else funny shortly after that, but I can't recall it now.

A Girl in a Bear Suit Might be There

Continuing yesterday's entry about inexpensive kid clothes, I found a new, with tags, Columbia fleece bunting in Dorothy's size at Goodwill a few weeks ago for only $5.00.  The bunting she has been wearing was getting a little snug and she still needs one when we walk to and from Malcolm's school; especially when we wait while he finishes playing outside when we pick him up.  This past weekend it was nice out, so we decided to take a family walk.  It was still cool and breezy, so we popped Dorothy into her new bunting, which is absolutely adorable on her.  Observe:







She was very snug and cute strapped in the stroller and we got a few comments. First, a group of ladies pointed and checked her out as they were waiting with us to cross the street. Then later, we walked past two guys outside of Emmett's (local brewery and restaurant) having a smoke. As we went past one of them said, "Hey, you've got a bear in your stroller."  That has now become a common phrase in the house.

Spring Consignment Sale

I love kids' clothes and I love a bargain. Put them together, and I'm in heaven!

Last weekend was the Spring consignment sale where I buy and sell kid stuff.  This time, I managed to sell more than I bought and it was a nice change to come out ahead.  I spent a total of $125.72 and sold $207.60 (after the sale takes their cut).  Not bad overall, and I have Spring and Summer mostly done for Dorothy and a good portion done for Malcolm.  I think he can still wear some summer things from last year, and I will fill in any gaps once it warms up some more.  Like always, there was tons of little girl stuff and it was slim pickings for the boys. On the up side, all of my boy stuff sold really well since there wasn't much competition.

Here is a break down of what all I bought:

Dorothy:

12 outfits (includes rompers, dresses, and 2 piece sets)
1 windbreaker
1 swim suit
1 pair of shoes


Malcolm:

2 outfits (1 shorts & shirt, 1 long pants & short sleeve shirt)
4 pairs of shorts
1 polo shirt
1 set of pajamas
1 pair of jeans


Here are a few of my favorite pieces that I picked up:


Shorts for Malcolm. The blue ones were only $1.50 on half price day and are Hanna Andersson that were new with tags. I love the vibrant color of blue and Hanna Andersson uses that color a lot, so I should be able to get him a shirt to go with them pretty easily. The plaid ones were $3.00 from The Children's Place. There is an outlet near here, so I'm hoping to find a polo shirt in one of the shades of blue, orange, or brown to go with them.



Cute Spring outift for Malcolm from Gap for $8.00. The shirt is so soft and the pants are nice and lightweight.



Two Janie and Jack outfits I found for Dorothy on half price day. The magenta top and plaid cropped pants was $6.00 and looks brand new. The sailor outfit was $5.00 and is a really soft knit. I love the nautical outfit and can't wait to see her in it.


A close up of the top, but neither picture really does it justice. It has tiny navy, pink, and light green polka dots and the embroidered sailboats on the band go all of the way around.



Two Springtime outfits from Gap. The bright pink dress and leggings also came with a diaper cover that still had the tags on it for $8.00. They are all a soft knit that is really cozy. Once it warms up, she can wear just the dress and diaper cover. I love how versatile this set is. The other romper is lavender with grey fireflies and was new with tags for $7.00. I love the smocking on both of these.



Speaking of smocking, I found this adorable red gingham dress with smocked ants carrying watermelon for $5.00! It also has green gingham trim. Unfortunately, when I got it home, I realized that the tag says that it is 100% silk and to dry clean only. I'm going to try hand washing it and see how it does. The bathing suit is from Gymboree and has a built in swim diaper, for $4.00. It also has a watermelon on it.


Overall, I'm very pleased with what I was able to buy and what I sold.  I'm still learning a bit with the selling process and have some ideas on how I can do even better next time.

While I Was Napping

Last week, both kids were napping, so I thought it would be a great time to have a little nap myself. About an hour into my nap, I heard Malcolm get up. It was a little early for him to be up, but not enough for me to send him back to finish his nap. I could hear him, but didn't want to get up quite yet, so I continued resting. When I got up, I saw my camera and didn't think that was where I had left it, but put it away and didn't think about it much until later when looking at the pictures on the camera. Evidently, while I was napping, Malcolm did a little photo documentation. Here are a few of his photos:
