Dorothy had her first "real" twirling competition today. The team she is on was planning to compete today, but last week's practice was cancelled do to the blizzard, so they weren't ready to compete. Unfortunately, I had already sent in her individual entry, so we went anyway. For now, we had planned to stick with just doing the competitions where the team performs, since we will be there anyway.
She was ready and raring to go, until it was her turn. Then she got a little shy and nervous, but she still did her thing once I walked her up to the starting point.
We got there a little early to see some of the older girls perform. She ate a tone of snacks while waiting, including the very important olive break.
Kevin wanted to see what she looked like with make up. Getting to wear make up and having her hair done might have been the highlight of the day for her.
Ready to start!
Her hair isn't long enough, or thick enough, to make a decent bun, so I went with two French braids.
I wish this wasn't out of focus, but it's the only one I got that sort of shows what she was doing.
The photographer in the background was taking pictures for the host team. He took several of her while she was standing, waiting for the judge.
Out in the hall after she was all done. She looks way older than 5 here. Yikes!
Her favorite thing to do is to go out in the hall and "practice." She doesn't want to learn her own solo twirling routine yet, but keeps asking to go out and show the judges routines she makes up herself.
If she would only stretch like that when her teacher asks her to.
It almost looks like she knows what she is doing.
She earned two medals, but only wanted to wear one for the photo. She was third, out of three, both times, but she doesn't really understand that. She just knows that she she "won."
